0.3 FTE Hybrid GP Opportunity – Cambie Gardens Complex Care Supported Housing

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a family physician to support residents at Cambie Gardens, a supported housing site for individuals with complex physical disabilities and medical needs.

Cambie Gardens is part of the redevelopment of the George Pearson Centre, with 44 residents transitioning into supported housing units embedded within a mixed residential complex. Residents have significant physical disabilities (many wheelchair‑dependent, some ventilated or tube‑fed) with complex medical needs including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. Some residents also experience co‑occurring mental health and substance use challenges.

This role provides longitudinal primary care and episodic medical support in collaboration with embedded nursing staff who provide day‑to‑day monitoring and initiate clinical consultations.

Time Commitment

  • Two in‑person rounding sessions per week (typically Tuesday and Friday afternoons)
  • Availability for consultation Monday–Friday, 9–5
  • Virtual care and care coordination as needed

Physician Scope / Activities

Act as MRP for approximately 44 residents.

Provide primary care support for common clinical issues including:

  • Pressure injuries and wound care
  • UTIs (many residents have neurogenic bladder and catheterization)
  • Respiratory infections in ventilated patients
  • Neurogenic bowel / constipation management
  • Medication management for agitation or behavioural symptoms

Other activities include:

  • Responding to nursing consultations (virtual or in person)
  • Coordinating care with specialists and community teams
  • Medication management and care planning
  • Supporting hospital transitions when needed
  • Joining the call pool and being on call once every 4 weeks

Typical communication pathways:

Emergent issue – phone call

Urgent (same day) – text

Semi‑urgent (2–3 days) – email

Routine – physician communication binder

Requirements

  • MD with current licensure in British Columbia
  • Experience in primary care, complex care, disability medicine, or outreach medicine
  • Comfort working with medically complex patients in supported housing environments
  • Commitment to patient‑centered care and harm reduction principles

Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Desired
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
  • Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) – Mandatory
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.

Benefits

  • Grow your career with employer‑paid training and leadership development opportunities
  • Wellness supports, including counselling, critical incident and innovative wellness services are available to employees and their immediate families
  • Award‑winning recognition programs to honour staff, medical staff and volunteers
  • Access to exclusive discount offers and deals for VCH staff
