Job description

Research Opportunity: The Personalized Biomechanics (PB) Research Lab, directed by Dr. Jonathan Kusins, develops biomechanical tools and pre-clinical evaluation methods that improve how medical devices are designed and assessed prior to clinical implementation. This funded MASc position is part of a research collaboration with a leading medical device industry partner and a practicing cardiac electrophysiologist (Dr. William Chan, Waterloo Regional Health Network), advancing pre-clinical evaluation tools for catheter-based therapies used to treat cardiac arrhythmias.


What You Will Do

• Design and conduct biomechanical experiments on biological and synthetic tissue specimens

• Develop benchtop testing platforms for pre-clinical medical device evaluation

• Apply advanced experimental techniques including mechanical testing, imaging, and 3D printing

• Collaborate with industry R&D and have the opportunity to observe clinical procedures alongside our clinical partner


Start Date: September 2026

Eligibility Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering or science discipline

• Interest or experience in experimental biomechanics, medical device evaluation, mechanical testing, imaging, and/or 3D printing

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

• (Asset) Prior research or industry experience
