Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is the subsidiary of Medavie Health Services responsible for the optimal operation and management of EMS Services in Central Alberta, an integrated, pre-hospital care organization.

The EMR provides timely transportation between appropriate facilities. Due to the nature of operating in the public eye, a high level of professionalism, communication, and knowledge is always expected.

The EMR is required to conduct themselves in a safe and discreet manner, with the responsibility of conduct justification to patients, family members, hospitals staff, management, public agencies, legal court, and more.

DUTIES AND TASKS

Non-Emergency Transport

  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stocks and maintains vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.

Communication

  • Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports. (ePCRs)
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to General Manager of MHS - West or designate.

Education

  • Maintain educational competencies as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Maintains functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participates actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.

Physical Ability

  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a EMR.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients
  • Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
  • Will advise superintendent of injuries that will impair duties.

Public Relations

  • Actively participates in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West
  • Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.

QUALIFICATIONS :

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.

Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics

Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION :

Certified in and maintains CPR certification.

Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
