Job description

Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraising Coordinator is responsible for managing New Hope’s fundraising program. The Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to develop the annual fundraising plan, including appeals, events, grant proposals, reporting, donor stewardship, and prospect research. The Coordinator is also responsible for managing the donor database and donor communications. This role is integral to ensuring New Hope has the donation and grant revenue needed to provide a welcoming community and affordable transitional housing for refugee families. The Coordinator approaches their work with a deep sense of compassion and care for residents, and views this role as an opportunity for intercultural relationship building, and as an expression of their commitment to seeking justice and extending welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, strengthen and expand New Hope’s annual fundraising program through diverse fundraising strategies and best practices.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and existing donors.
  • Grow and manage a portfolio of monthly and mid-level donors using donor-centric strategies, and collaborate with the Executive Director on major donors and prospects.
  • Conduct prospect research and analysis to inform fundraising strategies.

Appeals, Grants & Communications

  • Execute all aspects of direct appeals, including segmentation, list preparation, content development, and follow-up.
  • Develop compelling content for appeals, grant proposals, grant reports, stewardship activities, and the annual report.
  • Research foundations and granting opportunities.
  • Engage residents and alumni in ethical storytelling to communicate New Hope’s impact.
  • Respond in a timely and helpful manner to all donor inquiries.
  • Ensure fundraising communications are clear, persuasive, and aligned with organizational values and messaging.
  • Organize and execute all fundraising events.
  • Lead New Hope’s signature fundraising events (2–3 per year), including one major peer-to-peer fundraising event.
  • Oversee all aspects of event planning and execution, including concept development, logistics, marketing, ticketing, materials preparation, volunteer coordination, hospitality, follow-up, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrate best practices in peer-to-peer fundraising, including motivating and stewarding fundraisers and volunteers.
  • Develop and test new fundraising event ideas to diversify revenue streams.
  • Data Management & Administration

  • Manage the donor database to maximize its effectiveness for fundraising and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate data entry across fundraising platforms, including New Hope’s CRM, CanadaHelps, CHIMP, etc., to ensure timely gift processing and stewardship.
  • Utilize data, reporting, and analytics to assess and improve fundraising performance.
  • Responsible for issuing CRA compliant tax receipts.
  • Complete all administrative and reporting tasks related to fundraising in a timely and organized manner.
  • Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, partners, residents, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with non-donor communications, including newsletters and social media posts.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small, close-knit team, including participation in other duties as assigned.
  • Engage respectfully and comfortably in intercultural relationships, including with residents who may have low English proficiency.
  • About You

You enjoy fundraising and have demonstrated success in previous fundraising endeavours. You are compelled by the work of New Hope, care deeply about the plight of refugees, and understand this work to be born out of your own Christian commitments to justice and welcome. You have exceptional written communication skills and an understanding of how fundraising communications differ from other forms of communication and marketing. You enjoy building relationships and inviting people into deeper levels of engagement with a cause, project, or relationship. Your excellent attention to detail and organizational skills have allowed you to demonstrate success in managing projects, events, donor portfolios, and data. You have a caring, professional manner, natural discretion, and an awareness of the impacts of trauma on the families we serve.

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of direct fundraising experience, ideally including peer-to-peer fundraising events.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfortable taking initiative while also working within a collaborative team environment.
  • Enjoy a dynamic work environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
  • Experience with data management and donor databases is a strong asset.
  • Lived refugee experience, experience working with refugee or migrant populations and / or working in cross-cultural contexts are strong assets.
  • Ability to respect diverse opinions and perspectives that may differ from your own.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, Canva (or similar), and CRM and email marketing tools.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend meetings or events.
  • Able to attend occasional off-site meetings or events.
  • Valid BC Drivers Licence is an asset.
  • Compensation is between $27-33 / hour depending on experience.

This role is part-time (3 days / week) with some flexibility for hybrid work arrangements, and potential for more hours as needed. Contract duration is 12 months, with the possibility of extension to 18 months as this is a parental leave cover.
