The Volunteer’s Role

Cuso International is seeking a dynamic candidate to play a crucial role in identifying key stakeholders, with a special focus on private sector companies. Your efforts will support a thorough assessment of skill requirements across Canadian private enterprises, ensuring that technical and vocational training programs are perfectly aligned to meet these demands. This alignment is essential to expanding access to meaningful and rewarding employment opportunities for young people.

The SHARE project strengthens economic resilience in marginalized communities by supporting entrepreneurship, employability, TVET systems, and market-driven skills, focusing on inclusive opportunities for women, youth, LGBTQ+ individuals, migrants, and refugees. It empowers partners to adapt to market changes, improve employment, enhance competitiveness, and build innovative partnerships by redefining their commercial value propositions.

This exciting role involves identifying key private sector companies across Central America, with a special focus on those linked to Canada. By strategically mapping these connections, Cuso International can leverage its unique strengths, foster dynamic partnerships, and drive forward cutting-edge strategic initiatives.

As a volunteer, your work will encompass:

• Skills Needs Assessment: Conduct consultations with local businesses to identify skill gaps and align training programs accordingly.
• Capacity Building Workshops: Train partner organizations on economic facilitation, market systems, and private sector engagement, including coaching on measuring economic impact.
• Business Linkages and Partnerships: Facilitate networking and support supplier development initiatives that promote inclusion of disadvantaged groups, women, and youth in growth sectors.
• Monitoring and Learning Framework: Develop indicators to track employment and competitiveness among vulnerable groups, train partners in data collection, and use insights to improve programs and demonstrate impact.

Essential Qualifications:

• A university degree or comparable experience in relevant fields such as marketing, industry association management, fundraising, communications, business, volunteer management or development, and non-profit management

Essential Background:

• Business experience, or previous experience that demonstrates an ability to understand and respond to the interests of the private sector.
• Experience in program development and managing complex projects under tight timelines.
• Ability to develop compelling arguments, based on self-interest, to enlist participants and supporters.
• Ability to work closely with a small, motivated team in a sometimes complex environment.
• Flexible and adaptable in grasping and responding to cultural differences in a new setting.
• Knowledgeable in office and presentation software.

Volunteer Support and Requirements

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

• Monthly living allowance
• Accommodation
• Health insurance (including required vaccinations and antimalarial medication)
• Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
• Pre-placement, in-country and reintegration training (along with access to self-directed materials and online resources)
• Ongoing local support
• Access to the Employee Assistance Program during and after placement

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

• Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
• Provide two professional references and one personal reference
• Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
• Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
• Comply with anti-terrorism checks
• Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct

Residency and Citizenship: Candidates are responsible for confirming how volunteering internationally may affect their citizenship or residency status. Canadian Permanent Residents should verify requirements with Immigration Canada before travel.
