Job description

Overview:An Education Assistant (EA) position involves supporting teachers in the delivery of classroom programs for students. EAs work directly with students, providing supervision, guidance, and support in academic, social, and behavioral development. They assist with the implementation of individualized programs and daily classroom activities. EAs collaborate with teachers to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Preference will be given to applicants who are of Indigenous descent.Key Responsibilities Include:Assist teachers with subject areas and projectsAssist with the supervision and training of students in the development of life skills and performance of daily activitiesAssist small groups of students or individuals with the interpretation and completion of assignmentsProvide ongoing and regular communication about the any assigned programming to the teacherAs directed by teacher/principal, keep a daily record/journal of student activitiesAssist small groups of students with review/drillsAssist small groups of students with speech and language as directed by SERT or Speech Language PathologistAssist staff in the development of appropriate behaviorSupervise students at recess and in the absence of teachers as directedAssist in supervising extra-curricular activities either within or outside school buildingAssist in preparing and arranging lesson materials, displays and any other classroom requirementsAssist with administration duties related to a particular classroom (eg. Copying, collating, filing, laminating, typing, etc.)Assist with collecting, recording and accounting for monies from student projects, etc.Assist in implementing behavioral management strategiesLead groups of students as directedAny other duties as assigned by PrincipalQualifications:Grade 12 GraduateEducation Assistant or Native Classroom Assistant Diploma/CertificationSensitivity to First Nations culture, lifestyle and traditionMust have experience working with youth/children/proficiency in facilitation/leading youthExcellent communication skillsCriminal Reference CheckAbility to interact with parents, teachers, administrators and special needs professionalsBe physically and emotionally capable of performing all dutiesKnowledge of Aboriginal culture and ability to speak Ojibway an asset Accessibility : BFN is committed to an inclusive, barrier-free process under the Ontario Human Rights Code and AODA.
