Overview

The Senior Project Engineer role will be hired under the Engineering Management Centre of Excellence group within the Engineering Management Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Senior Project Engineer role will play a support role in the delivery of Engineering Services on a large project in Calgary.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the candidate will be assigned to the project to support the planning, design, and execution of civil infrastructure components for a major LRT project. As part of the Delivery Partner team, the role involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and contributing to the successful delivery of transit infrastructure on time and within budget.

Your role

  • Review and validate design submissions, technical reports, and engineering deliverables for compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams, ensuring constructability, safety, and lifecycle considerations are integrated into design decisions.
  • Act as a key interface between the client, design consultants, contractors, and internal delivery teams.
  • Monitor engineering progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule and budget.
  • Support procurement activities, including technical specifications, bid evaluations, and contract documentation.
  • Coordinate design changes, RFIs, and technical clarifications to ensure timely resolution.
  • Work closely with the Contracts Lead to ensure engineering inputs align with commercial and contractual requirements.
  • Assist in reviewing contractor submissions for contractual compliance, including change requests, claims, and variations.
  • Help identify potential contractual risks arising from engineering or design issues and support mitigation strategies.
  • Support environmental, safety, and quality management processes throughout design and construction.
  • Collaborate with municipal authorities, utility providers, transit agencies, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including site reviews, issue resolution, and verification of contractor work.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related field).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or eligibility for registration.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience on major infrastructure or transit projects.
  • Proven experience working in a delivery partner, owner's engineer, or EPC environment.
  • Strong understanding of LRT or rail systems, including civil works, track, systems, and operations.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian engineering codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
