The Office of the Ombudsman is an independent office of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, responsible for responding to complaints of unfair treatment by provincial government authorities, municipalities, the Patient Concerns Resolution Process of Alberta Health Services, health professions, and other designated professional organizations under the Ombudsman Act.

If so, the Alberta Ombudsman’s office may be the right place for you! Our office gives you the opportunity to research and investigate complaints raised by Albertans.

Reporting to an Investigations Manager, you will be involved in the office’s intake process, complaint analysis, and the early resolution process. You will also assist with investigations and/or conduct less complex investigations. A focus on building positive relationships as you work with various departments is crucial for this role.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field is required; or a related two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and two years related experience; or a related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and three years related experience.

To be successful, the candidate will require the ability to think critically and participate in a team environment. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills are essential. The ability to research and analyze policy and legislation is important and experience handling highly sensitive and confidential information is considered an asset for this position.

The Alberta Public Service has identified seven behavioural competencies with varying experience levels that are essential to be successful in all positions.
