Job description

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Design and Project management

  • Provide a full spectrum of project delivery, from requirement gathering, doing site visits, preliminary design, detailed design, construction support, site reviews, commissioning, and troubleshooting for industrial, commercial, institutional and healthcare projects.
  • Involved in the design for power and electrical systems including but not limited to Power Distribution Low and Medium Voltage, Renewable Energy Systems, Motor Control, Lighting Systems, Emergency Power Generation, Fire alarm, Security and Communication Systems.
  • Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Assist with thorough site investigation / review for the purpose of creating deficiency reports or determining existing site conditions during the design process of renovation projects.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks, including shop drawing review, responding to requests for information and issuing design-related changes.
  • Complete the review of safe work practices and perform risk assessments for employee tasks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, technologists, and administrative support staff
  • Coordinate with utilities, equipment suppliers, contractors, and clients on a regular basis
  • Peer review to ensure all design meets quality and applicable standards including Canadian Electrical Code, CSA codes and standards, National Building codes, and others.
  • Business travel upon request.

  • Qualifications

    What you will need to succeed

  • An electrical engineering technologist diploma
  • Registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist in the province of Nova Scotia or eligible to be certified within six months
  • A minimum of five to eight years of work experience in electrical facilities-related design and consulting, however, less experienced professionals will be considered.
  • Experience

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with the ability to create and edit electrical design drawings.
  • Proficiency in Revit as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) design tool, specifically for electrical system design.
  • In-depth familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and other relevant building codes.
  • Substantial hands-on experience in the design and drafting of electrical systems, including the layout of devices, panels, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated competence in organizing design projects and excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients.
