Vegetation Management Technician

Vegetation Management Technicians (VMT) (aka Weed Sprayer, Herbicide Applicator) are seasonal positions from early May to the end of August, with the possibility of extension into the fall. Work begins with training in early May in Nisku, AB.

The role involves working away from home in the field across western Canada for extended periods; herbicide application and weed management; weed identification and record‑keeping; inventory and equipment management; equipment operation and maintenance; and quality customer contact and public relations.

Conditions of Employment

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Pass a drug (cannabis) and alcohol test
• Hold a valid class 5 driver’s license for at least two years within Canada
• Provide a driver’s abstract suitable for insurance purposes
• Possess Standard First Aid Level C certification with AED
• Hold H2S Alive certification
• Hold CSO / CSTS 2020 certification
• Have a valid Canadian driver’s license for a minimum of two years (condition of the insurance industry)

Compensation

First‑year VMT : $14,000–$18,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season.

Second‑year VMT : $16,000–$22,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season.

Third‑year VMT : $19,000–$24,000 plus meal allowance paid over the course of the season.

Hourly wages : $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience.

Accommodation and Meal Allowances

Provided while working away from home base.
