Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour

Job Summary We are currently hiring for a Relief Full Time Registered Nurse, Surgical Services - Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) to join our team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately September 2026 or until the return of the incumbent.

Detailed Overview In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team to provide person-centered care, this role provides direct nursing care to patients recovering from anaesthetics within the PACU by assessing, planning, providing, coordinating and evaluating nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses post anaesthetic patients by collecting and evaluating information from a variety of sources using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Determines nursing interventions and documents care.
  • Provides nursing care to address critical care needs according to physicians' and anaesthetists' orders; initiates immediate treatment if required and modifies care as needs change.
  • Communicates with the interdisciplinary care team; collaborates with Physicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educators, and other providers to adjust care plans as needed.
  • Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, assigns tasks to support staff, and makes referrals according to protocols and standards.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; follows bacteriological and preventative medicine principles and emergency procedures.
  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patients, advocating for privacy, dignity and autonomy in decision making and care planning.
  • Documents assessments, diagnoses, interventions, responses, outcomes, and referrals per practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participates in nursing committees, care conferences, and quality improvement activities; engages in education and maintains clinical competence.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post graduate coursework and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Proficiency in initiating and maintaining Intravenous Therapy.
  • Ability to assess patients and apply nursing knowledge to plan and implement care.
  • Ability to recognize acuity changes and respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care and cultural safety.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and collaborate with the team.
  • Ability to use evidence-based practice to guide nursing decisions.
  • Ability to operate related equipment and computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
