Story Behind the Need

Business group : Design and Digital Product, Commerce and Communications - The Commerce team at Scotia Digital is reinventing discovery and onboarding experiences to meet the evolving and unique needs of our customers, regardless of who they are or how they choose to bank with us.

Team is in charge of part of sales funnel around helping people determine if a product is right for them and then start an application and file.

Project : Investor relations project – for investor relations site, will be doing a few workstreams, some related to regulatory requirements and some enhancements on site (improving functionality, user interface). In initial phases.

Leveraging your ability to organize and motivate teams, you will work closely with the other Product Managers, Bank Stakeholders, Software Developers, and Designers to translate the customer journey directives into actionable backlog deliverables. You will follow the backlog through to launch and monitoring while ensuring all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Typical Day in Role :

  • Drive the execution of a backlog geared to delivering new features required for the Investor Solutions website.
  • Support project management activities and reporting.
  • Lead continuous discovery to understand customer needs, pain points, industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Review both qualitative and quantitative data to identify opportunities to add to the backlog.
  • Work closely with design, engineering, and business partners to come up with solutions to problem areas identified within Discovery.
  • Work with analytics to monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales funnel performance, application starts, completes and conversions.
  • Collect and synthesize internal and external data to drive direction, establish baselines and drive decisioning.
  • Partake in customer interviews / user testing to define customer pain points and test ideas, features and designs.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog, write detailed user stories and participate in sprint planning and review activities. Engage day-to-day with the scrum teams, clarifying questions and helping with decision making.
  • Establish a close relationship with the business stakeholders to ensure their requirements are translated into the right products and journeys. Manage expectations with effective communication.

Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills :

1) 3+ years of experience in a role building customer facing digital products

2) Demonstrated experience managing a technology product or a digital journey end-to-end, from inception to delivery – in a large organization

3) 3+ years’ combined experience multiple functional areas such as Product Management, Management Consulting, Agile / Scrum, Engineering, UX / UI Design, Sales and Marketing, Finance

Nice-To-Have Skills :

1) Experience in financial services (or other regulated industries) is considered an asset

2) Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)

  • Verbal, written and visual communication skills are exceptional, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management skills
  • Education :

    Engineering, Computer Science or Business degrees considered an asset

    Scrum certified an asset

    Best VS. Average Candidate :

    Ideal candidate has strong product management experience, have done at least 2-3 different product launches (to really demonstrate understand end-to-end inception to delivery process); need to be very diplomatic in how to handle pushing back on certain requirements and negotiating them through; has worked in FI and with commerce or website products (preferred); has worked with AEM or other enterprise content management systems.

    Candidate Review & Selection

    2 rounds – MS Teams Video interviews – each 1 hour

    1st – peer skills-based assessment – with 2 product managers – will be given a business case and will need to provide approach to drive discovery for that product and what they would do in different stages of cycle, and post-delivery – will be sent ahead of interview

    2nd – leadership behavioral interview – culture and overall fit – with HM
