Your extensive expertise in high-power electrical systems, lithium-ion battery technology, and team leadership will be crucial in driving our projects and our team to success.

Overview

Moment Energy is a cleantech startup focused on revolutionizing the energy storage industry. Our mission is to provide worldwide access to clean, reliable, and affordable power by repurposing retired electric vehicle batteries into state-of-the-art BESS solutions. We are a fast-paced and dynamic team that values collaboration, wellness, and innovation.

The Role

  • 3 weeks paid vacation plus 1 week off between Christmas and New Year’s
  • Extended health, dental, and vision benefits plan
  • RRSP matching
  • Regular company socials, events and weekly fitness and yoga
  • Free electric vehicle charging
  • Open and collaborative company culture

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee and lead the electrical design and development of all BESS components and systems, including integrating battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and grid interconnection systems.
  • Set the technical direction and strategy for the electrical engineering team, ensuring alignment with overall product and company goals.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Senior and Junior Electrical Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.
  • Lead project planning, resource allocation, and scheduling for the electrical engineering team to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Direct the architectural design and implementation of high-power systems, including the design of electrical panels, and the selection and integration of circuit breakers, disconnects, transformers, and busbars for utility-scale applications.
  • Direct the creation and approval of detailed wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, wire harness diagrams, and site integration diagrams.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall BESS architecture.
  • Lead the strategic identification, evaluation, and management of new and existing suppliers to optimize product cost, function, and lead times.
  • Oversee the creation, review, and revision of FMEA, BOM, manufacturing, and assembly drawings to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for engineering documentation, including SOPs, design review presentations, design journals, and quality documentation.
  • Guide critical architectural design decisions based on external client requirements and long-term product roadmaps.
  • Ensure all electrical designs and documentation meet the requirements for UL product certification, including UL1973, UL9540, and UL9540A.
  • The Candidate

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the design and development of complex electrical systems, with a strong focus on BESS, renewable energy, or lithium-ion battery applications.
  • Direct experience designing and developing high-power systems (600V+ / 1000V+), including electrical panels, circuit protection, busbars, and transformers.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in a leadership or management role, successfully leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Expert proficiency in design software for electrical design of battery systems, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, battery management systems (BMS), and power conversion systems (PCS).
  • Proven track record of managing projects from concept to completion and leading products through certification processes.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company focused on creating sustainable energy solutions and making a positive impact on the world.
  • Collaborate closely with passionate co-founders and a team committed to innovation and excellence.
  • Contribute to building and scaling a company from the ground up, where your work will have a direct and meaningful impact.
  • Enjoy a dynamic, fast-paced work environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow.
  • Thrive in a workplace that values collaboration, wellness, and celebrating successes, with regular company socials, fitness sessions, and more.
