Job description

Edmonton Catholic School is seeking Two Speech Language Pathologists to join their team. The Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provides inclusive and culturally responsive speech and language services to students with diverse needs using strategies aligned with the Pyramid of Intervention. The SLPs address communication and language-literacy needs impacting school participation and performance, integrate functional strategies into the student’s program, and collaborate with school teams, multi-disciplinary team members, and families to build capabilities. Their expertise is critical for identifying, diagnosing, and treating communication delays and disorders.

Responsibilities and Activities

Diagnostic & Consultative Support

  • Provide speech, language, and literacy interventions for Pre-K–Grade 12 students.
  • Assess student abilities using varied tools, interpret results, and create individualized treatment plans.
  • Consult with staff and families, integrating functional strategies into programs and classroom routines.
  • Monitor progress, adjust interventions, and communicate findings to parents, teachers, and professionals.

Supervise and Mentor Therapeutic Assistants

  • Supervise and mentor Therapeutic Assistants in implementing targeted strategies and speech-language interventions.
  • Provide training, coaching, and feedback to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Oversee intervention techniques and promote skill development for effective student supp t.
  • Collaborate with School Teams

  • Partner with school staff and multidisciplinary teams to design and implement communication strategies that enhance learning, independence, and participation.
  • Participate in meetings to share insights, monitor progress, and develop coordinated intervention plans.
  • Support school-wide initiatives and foster collaboration by sharing expertise and guiding team members.
  • Provide Expertise on Augmentative / Alternative Communication

  • Assess and implement Augmentative / Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for students with complex communication needs.
  • Support applications to Alberta Aids to Daily Living for communication device approval.
  • Train students, families, and staff on the use of AAC devices and strategies and monitor the effectiveness of AAC interventions and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Stay informed about new AAC technologies and best practices to enhance service delivery.
  • Participate in Professional Development

  • Design and deliver training sessions for staff and community partners on communication, language, and literacy.
  • Create resources, provide ongoing coaching, and evaluate impact to improve implementation of speech-language strategies.
  • Stay current with advancements in speech-language pathology through continuous learning.
  • Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) and hold a valid practice permit.
  • Minimum three years of related experience in classroom-based service delivery is preferred.
  • Knowledge of speech-language therapy principles and practices, including professional regulations and adherence to regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of the Pyramid of Intervention and its application to broad-based, small group, and individual supports.
  • Knowledge of the selection and design of augmentative and alternative communication systems.
  • General knowledge of the Division’s operations and business and general understanding of the Division’s mission and vision in a faith-based environment.
  • Knowledge of records management principles, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Strong assessment and problem-solving skills to identify and address developmental and educational delays.
  • Proficiency in conveying highly technical / medical information to parents / guardians and professional staff using plain language without bias or judgment.
  • Strong leadership abilities in guiding and motivating teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentations.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities and effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Adaptable to changing environments and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively engage in the consultant role through education, training, coaching, and collaboration with other professionals.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the variety of students’ abilities, needs, and conditions.
  • Responsive decision-making and leadership qualities, with the ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Please note, the current salary range for this position is $73,562 - $91,966. The salary range provided includes a market supplement that will be reviewed on an annual basis, as outlined in our OOS Terms and Conditions.
