Data Scientist / Machine Learning (Financial Services)

Strategic and highly visible consulting opportunity in the insurance industry for a senior digital analytics expert. Use Python, SQL, and Tableau to lead advanced audit analytics, data automation, and risk insights. Hybrid role in Toronto with global collaboration, executive exposure, and hands-on data science application.

Responsibilities :

  • Own and deliver analytical project planning and execution for audit and advisory engagements.
  • Define scope, objectives, and deliverables with audit teams and perform data analytics procedures to evaluate controls and business objectives.
  • Generate analytics insights, identify outliers or anomalies, and support automation in audit processes.
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to access and interpret data structures and sources.
  • Develop access plans, gather data, and document system and business process knowledge for future reuse.
  • Lead initiatives in audit digitization, including continuous auditing, automated monitoring, and process automation.
  • Apply programming, statistics, data visualization, ML Ops, and machine learning to identify control gaps and enhance assurance quality.
  • Contribute to shaping audit strategy and policies, driving continuous improvement using technology.
  • Design and deliver analytics training in SQL, Python, and Tableau for internal audit teams.
  • Build relationships with audit stakeholders and internal / external analytics communities.
  • What you will need to succeed :

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, AI, Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • 8+ years of experience in the financial or insurance industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and productionizing NLP or generative AI models; GitHub portfolio of relevant work is preferred.
  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience with SQL and Python, including libraries such as NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, and scikit-learn
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Demonstrated ability to create executive-level dashboards and storytelling visualizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence across all organizational levels and work through ambiguity.
  • Deep knowledge of IT, data analytics, digital processes, and internal controls in a corporate environment.
  • Practical experience with statistical analysis techniques such as regression, clustering, and decision trees.
  • Familiarity with AWS SageMaker and machine learning pipelines.
  • Knowledge of digital platforms, web, mobile, personalization, and AI technologies.
  • Bonus : Experience with audit analytics tools such as Archer, Arbutus, Alteryx, or Dataiku.
