Optical Engineer

Salary : $95,000 CAD (higher for senior candidates)

Location : Hybrid (Canada)

Our work spans critical technology areas including electronic warfare, satellite systems, autonomous robotics, and next‑generation signal intelligence.

We are seeking an Optical Engineer with a strong background in spectroscopic sensing, instrument design, and signal / data processing to support the development of next‑generation payloads and instrumentation for space and defence missions. You will contribute to advanced projects involving LIBS, Raman, and other optical sensing techniques, and help design, prototype, and validate compact, high‑performance systems under real‑world constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, model, and optimize optical systems for spectroscopic sensors, including lens assemblies, mirrors, filters, fiber optics, and beam delivery components.
• Develop and integrate laser‑based spectroscopic techniques such as Raman and LIBS into deployable platforms.
• Conduct trade‑off studies to evaluate optical components and configurations for performance, cost, and size constraints.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electronic teams to package and ruggedize optical systems for field and flight environments.
• Contribute to sensor calibration, alignment, and validation in lab and field settings.
• Support algorithm development and data processing pipelines for spectroscopic signal interpretation (classification, peak fitting, etc.).
• Assist in the development of space‑qualified or space‑heritage payloads for LEO, lunar, or deep space missions.
• Author and contribute to technical documentation, test reports, and design reviews.
