Position Overview
The Team Lead, Mechanical Equipment Engineering will set the technical direction for the overall project, act as the main technical interface to internal and external customers, and lead design, development, and test of mechanical equipment for automated fueling machines, medical isotope systems, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling for CANDU reactors. The role includes concept design, detailed design, design calculations, assessments, studies, technical documentation, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and operational support.

This position is onsite in Peterborough, Ontario.
Your Day To Day
- Facilitate the preparation of proper plans and schedules and take ownership of the cost / schedule commitments of the team.
- Create and enforce the use of Task Definition Forms for work assignments.
- Provide leadership and direction of design activities in conjunction with technical counselors and drive job scope control.
- Maintain task surveillance through active engagement and accurate work planning.
- Maintain team allocation targets, enforce budget adherence, and review project budgets and estimates as necessary.
- Participate with FM in resource planning, recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Prepare and roll out team goals, track performance, and deliver mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews.
- Attend weekly leadership meetings with FM and TLs, conduct bi-weekly team meetings, and approve weekly timecards.
- Lead design, analysis, test, commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.
- Prepare, approve, or lead design documentation and technical specifications.
- Apply and lead design for manufacturability / assembly techniques.
- Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning personnel.
- Lead internal and external meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations.
- Prepare or verify project-level deliverables including evaluations and reports.
- Maintain engineering and product excellence, effective design activity management, and defect-free designs.
- Ensure compliance with processes, industry codes, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Present and report on status, issues, improvements, and resource needs.
- Provide overall Project Technical Leadership duties as required.
- Contribute to and lead process change and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and deployment.
- Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment with frequent interaction with external customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
- Take an active role in driving proposal development and review, including scope review, estimate preparation, and technical presentations.
- Proactive and timely identification of project risks, analyze solutions, and resolve issues.
- Provide technical direction, decisions, and oversight of design activities and document verification.
- Assure health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
- Short-term travel may be required for meeting clients and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.Current PEO license.15 years’ experience in design engineering in regulated, process-based design environments.8 years’ experience in design and development with proven success in a technical leadership role.Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects through complete EPC life cycles.Experience with project schedules, budgets, financial metrics, and project management methodologies.Exposure to systems design, requirements development, interface design, and testing.Experience in interdisciplinary departments : systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing.Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, developing leadership skills, and ability to work in a team.Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignments.Creative and innovative thinkers.Desired Characteristics
Experience with 3D CAD software (Inventor / Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.Competency in machine design.WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
