Job descriptionNo degree, certificate or diploma required. 7 months to less than 1 year; on the road. Frequent or constant travel required across various locations. Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed. Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using GPS equipment, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Address customers' complaints or concerns. Maintain professionalism in customer service. Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations. Drive as part of a two‑person team or convoy. Load and unload goods. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Pay and receive payments for goods. Perform brake adjustments. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre‑trip, en‑route and post‑trip inspections; oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Transport and handle dangerous goods. AZ class license. Documentation knowledge : driver logbook, inspection reports (pre‑trip, in‑route, post‑trip), maintenance and repair reports, trip reports. Communication systems : operate GPS and other navigation equipment. Transportation / travel : local, long‑haul, provincial / territorial. Security and safety : criminal record check, driving record check (abstract). Transportation / travel : valid driver’s licence, willingness to travel cross‑border. Work conditions and physical capabilities : attention to detail, large workload, physically demanding, sitting. Weight handling : up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs). Personal suitability : organized, reliable, hardworking. Participates in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment. Provides awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth. Offers mentorship, coaching and / or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers. Applies hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities (e.g., anonymizing the hiring process, etc.). Provides diversity and cross‑cultural training to create a welcoming work environment for members of visible minorities.
