About You / What We Are Looking For

Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, you will be part of a team responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of a fast-paced, high volume development application processing section. You are a highly motivated professional who thrives in an environment of continuous improvement dealing with highly complex and diverse land use applications. You will manage the City’s most complex development projects and facilitate the multi-disciplinary review of projects through the approvals process. Specific duties will include: processing the most complex development projects; liaising and coordinating with internal and external contacts on matters related to the work; participating with other senior staff in formulating, implementing and modifying land use plans and development application processes; managing the review of rezoning and development applications in a timely manner; liaising with applicants, other City staff, professionals and the public; preparing reports and bylaw amendments; making presentations to committees and Council; mentorship of more junior planners and other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Our preferred candidate will possess at least 5 - 7 years of progressive professional experience in the field, preferably within a municipal setting. In addition, they must possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, as well as have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning. Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in process and business analysis would be a definite asset.

What We Offer:

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $63.88 - $75.70. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
