Zurich Canada is currently looking for an Assistant Vice President Property Underwriter to underwrite new and renewal business.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, East Property underwriting manager, the candidate will analyze and underwrite a portfolio of business (new and renewal), under limited direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments, ensuring a high level of service to customers.

What you will do :

  • Working under minimal direction, underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated underwriting authority.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to new underwriters.
  • Qualify accounts to meet within the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density.
  • Business Travel as required.

What you bring to the table :

Required :

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • 7 or more years of large property underwriting experience.
  • Bilingual French / English
  • Analytical mindset and inquisitive.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter and proactive attitude.
  • Experience in understanding property wordings and terminology.
  • Experience reviewing engineering reports.
  • Experience working with rating engines and Nat Cat modelling.
  • Insurance Industry specific education (F / CIP, CRM, RPLU etc) is an asset.

  • Expérience du travail d'équipe
  • La maîtrise de l'anglais, tant à l'oral qu'à l'écrit, est requise pour faciliter la communication avec les parties intéressées internes et externes situées à l'extérieur du Québec.

    Qualifications préférées

  • 7 ans ou plus d'expérience dans la souscription de biens importants.
  • Bilinguisme anglais-français
  • Esprit analytique et curieux.
  • Solides compétences en communication orale et écrite.
  • Esprit d'initiative et attitude proactive.
  • Expérience dans la compréhension des libellés et de la terminologie des biens.
  • Expérience de l'examen de rapports d'ingénierie.
  • Expérience de travail avec des moteurs de notation et de modélisation des catastrophes naturelles.
  • Une formation spécifique au secteur de l'assurance (FPAA, CRM, RPLU, etc.) est un atout.
