About this opportunity

At Meridian our aspiration is to integrate our purpose into everything we do for people, the planet, and communities. We believe that our greatest opportunity is to create opportunity and meet people where they are.
We’re looking for an HR Technology Technical Lead to take ownership of our HR technology ecosystem and help shape how more than 2,000 employees experience HR every day. In this role, you’ll be the technical authority behind our core HR platforms—configuring, optimizing, securing, and continuously improving systems that support the full employee lifecycle.

You’ll work closely with HR, IT, Risk, and business partners to turn complex needs into intuitive, scalable solutions. While this role has no direct reports, it plays a critical leadership role by mentoring others, setting technical standards, and leading cross‑functional initiatives that modernize and automate HR processes.
Key Responsibilities:

As the HR Technology Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the technical health, governance, and evolution of our HR systems. You’ll balance hands‑on configuration work with strategic thinking, risk management, and collaboration across the organization.

Lead the Technical Direction of HR Systems

  • Act as the technical lead for all standard and non‑standard HR system configuration, security, and enhancements
  • Set and model strong change control practices, including documentation, testing, approvals, and production releases
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and informal leadership to junior HR Systems team members
  • Track and report on HR systems operational workload and identify opportunities to streamline and improve how work gets done

Own System Configuration & Optimization

  • Serve as the primary owner for HR system modules, workflows, and configuration decisions
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and proactively address configuration risks
  • Maintain clear, audit‑ready documentation including configuration guides and security models
  • Review vendor release notes and plan for the adoption of new features that add real value
  • Partner with HR program owners and end users to understand pain points and deliver thoughtful, user‑centric solutions

Ensure Strong Governance, Security & Risk Management

  • Apply rigorous change control to minimize the risk of defects, data loss, or unauthorized access
  • Lead and participate in testing activities for system changes across the HR Systems workstream
  • Establish and maintain appropriate role‑based access controls, including quarterly access reviews
  • Review SOC reports and adjust system controls as required to meet security and compliance standards

Collaborate & Lead Cross‑Functional Initiatives

  • Work closely with HR, IT, Risk, and other partners to design automated, scalable solutions that reduce manual work
  • Build a strong understanding of HR programs and practices to better contextualize technical requests
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, practical language for non‑technical stakeholders
  • Take on project leadership or project management responsibilities for new modules, features, or system rollouts as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep experience configuring HR platforms such as UKG, Workday, SuccessFactors, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of HR system security models, role‑based access, and data privacy requirements
  • Proven ability to configure, troubleshoot, and optimize complex HR systems
  • Excellent documentation skills to support audit, compliance, and long‑term sustainability
  • Strong analytical and consulting skills, with the ability to translate business needs into practical system solutions

How You Work

  • You’re detail‑oriented and take pride in building solutions that are reliable, secure, and well‑documented
  • You’re adaptable and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast‑changing environment
  • You collaborate easily across teams and build trust with both technical and non‑technical partners
  • You manage your time well, prioritize effectively, and deliver on commitments

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Designations/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Human Resources, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in HR systems management or a similar technical role
  • Strong understanding of HR processes and system management principles

Why Join Us

  • Play a key role in shaping the future of HR technology across the organization
  • Influence decisions, set standards, and make meaningful changes that directly impact employees
  • Be part of a collaborative People & Culture team that values thoughtful design, governance, and continuous improvement

This role represents an existing vacancy. Internal candidates are being considered as part of our standard process.

Salary Range: CAD $79,100.00 to $118,700.00 annually.
