As a lecturer in special education, you will be responsible for teaching theory and practice in the field of special education.
You will design teaching programs, run course sessions, assess students and advise them on their academic progress. They may also contribute to research in their field of expertise.
The skills and concepts imparted include :
- Intervening with young people with learning and language difficulties;
- Developing intervention strategies for clients with learning and language difficulties or disorders. They will learn how to detect a problem situation;
- Interact with clients from ethnic and cultural communities different from their own;
- Interpersonal communication, communication techniques, verbal and non-verbal communication and the relationship between emotions and communication;
- Compiling the information needed to describe customer behaviour. They learn to observe and gather information in order to analyse and interpret customer behaviour;
- Search for resources and services in the community.
Status : Contract - Fall 2024 session
Location : Lasalle College, Montreal, Quebec
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan class sessions;
- Deliver sessions in a dynamic, effective and structured manner;
- Design formative and summative evaluations using the competency-based approach;
- Administer and mark assessments;
- Follow up each student and encourage success;
- Being available to students to help them develop the skills covered by the course;
- Any other related duties.
REQUIREMENTS
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Hold a university certificate or diploma or a college diploma, with an option or concentration in the discipline concerned;
- Teaching or have teaching experience in the discipline for one full semester within the last five (5) years;
- Have practiced a trade or profession related to the discipline or course in question for at least two (2) years.
This role involves interaction with internal and external clients and partners on a national and global scale. Professional proficiency in English is therefore a requirement for this role.
