This recruitment process will be used to fill experienced meteorologist positions at the following groups and levels:

- MT-02 Developmental Meteorologist (Apprenticeship and Professional Development Program) .
- MT-03 Operational Meteorologist OR Research and Development Meteorologist.

IMPORTANT: This recruitment process is designed only for candidates with a minimum of two years' experience as operational meteorologists/weather forecasters. For entry-level meteorologist positions without experience, please consult our website to find out when recruitment will open: Become a Meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada - Canada.ca.

Current annual salary scales:
1) MT-02: from $73,196 to $93,698
2) MT-03: from $89,705 to $113,981

Work environment

The Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) recruits meteorologists to replace or augment the complement of its workforce. Candidates without significant prior experience as operational meteorologists are recruited through the Meteorologist Occupational Training Program (MOTP) as Intern Meteorologists (MT-01). Candidates with a minimum of 2 to 3 years' prior work experience as operational meteorologists forecasting the weather are recruited for Developmental Meteorologist (MT-02) and Operational Meteorologist (MT-03) positions. This selection process is targeted at recruiting meteorologists for direct entry at the MT-02 and MT-03 level only.

Candidates applying for positions at the MT-02 level will only be considered for operational positions in a prediction centre. Candidates applying for positions at the MT-03 level should state on their cover letter if they are interested primarily in an operational role in a prediction centre, or in a research and development role. Applicants with an interest in this Research and Development (R&D) specialization (including numerical weather prediction modelling, environmental numerical forecasting, data assimilation, and/or computer science) are encouraged to indicate this in their cover letter. The Canadian Centre for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction (CCMEP), located in Dorval, Quebec, is the R&D centre responsible for MSC's numerical weather and environmental prediction systems. Note that all candidates must meet the essential qualification of experience in operational meteorology to be considered, regardless of whether they are interested in an operational or R&D role.

Intent of the process

The intent is to create an inventory of experienced candidates from which we can selected qualified individuals to fill vacant positions to meet current and future MT-02 and MT-03 needs within the Meteorological Service of Canada. We will pull candidacies on Friday, October 24, 2025, Thursday, April 30th, 2026, and on the closing date of this inventory.

Furthermore, if candidates who already occupy positions as indeterminate employees of the core public administration are selected within this process, acting appointments, assignments and secondments could be made in the course of the developmental program and up until the MT-03 level indeterminate appointments are made.
