Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant (Contract)

Salary : Up to $70K

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide support and assistance to lawyers and law clerks in a wide array of legal administrative and litigation tasks with a view to ensuring that the practice runs effectively and efficiently
  • Practice management for three lawyers (two partners and one associate), including but not limited to email management, calendar management, general practice and client file organization, organization of travel arrangements, and preparation of monthly accounts through EsiLaw
  • Preparing, serving, and filing court documents, including but not limited to pleadings, motion, application, and appeal materials, answers to undertakings, trial records, and settlement documents
  • Scheduling court appearances, liaising with court staff / process servers, and arranging for court filings at the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Federal Court, and Court of Appeal
  • Scheduling examinations for discovery as well as mediations and arbitrations
  • Opening, maintaining, and closing electronic files in iManage and ACL pursuant to the Law Society of Ontario’s standards of practice
  • Mentoring new LAAs

Qualifications

  • Law Clerk or Paralegal certificate and / or applicable experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Civil Litigation (Superior Court procedures) required
  • Advanced knowledge of all stages of litigation and court rules / procedures in various jurisdictions, specifically the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Strong working understanding of CaseLines and ACL
  • Strong technical skills (Adobe PRO & MS Office applications – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Microsoft Word Styles is an asset, but not necessary
  • Written communication skills, including accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise discretion when necessary
  • Professional, responsive, friendly, and able to build productive relationships
  • Transcription of electronic dictations
