About Us

The Greenbelt Foundation is an independent,scriptions charitable organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining Ontario’s Greenbelt and its interconnected natural heritage, water and agricultural systems and landscapes. With support from the Province of Ontario and its grants program, the Foundation undertakes evidence‑based research, policy work, strategic programs and public engagement to ensure continuous investment in the Greenbelt.

About The Role

The Strategic Communications department exists to increase awareness of the Greenbelt and engage diverse stakeholders. The Senior Strategic Communications Advisor will develop key content that reflects the Foundation’s strategic priorities and core pepe. The role also executes media‑relations and stakeholder‑engagement strategies, including municipal relations initiatives, and amplifies the Foundation’s work with key stakeholders.

You are a strong, proven writer and content‑developer with a sophisticated understanding of contemporary communication planning and delivery. You’re a self‑starter, motivated to support our unique, public‑interest mandate, and collaborative across the organization. You have a keen interest in the Greenbelt (or related areas) and a passion for using communications tools to engage stakeholders and enhance understanding of the Greenbelt’s benefits to Ontario.

What You Will Do

Specific responsibilities include:

Content Development and Management

• Lead content development including key messaging documents, presentation notes, video scripts, web content, blog posts, etc.
• Develop and oversee content management plans and systems to maximize assets across channels over time.
• Support the organization and its departments in understanding content types and appropriate use.

Media Relations

• Oversee the annual media relations strategy, including report launches, program milestones, and emerging issues.
• Track and report on emerging media trends and key issues.
• Draft and distribute press releases and media pitches.█

• Build relationships with media stakeholders.
• Maintain media lists, media tracking, and article archiving.
• Report on media engagement to relevant departments.
• Support Foundation staff with media interview prep and messaging.

Stakeholder Relations

• Develop annual stakeholder relations strategy, including municipal support.
• Implement annual stakeholder relations activities, drafting briefing notes.

Conferences and Stakeholder Engagement

• Oversee Foundation participation in conferences and events with key stakeholders.
• Develop tabling materials highlighting Foundation activities and impact.
• Support production and distribution of promotional materials.
• Represent the Foundation at grantee, community, and conference events when appropriate.
• Support development of an Indigenous engagement strategy.

Reporting and Evaluation

• Coordinate drafting of quarterly board reports, twice‑annual funder reports, and annual impact report.

Administration

• Support budget management and tracking.
• Liaise with vendors and partners.
• Handle other activities upon request.

Leadership Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but requires working closely with junior staff and providing project guidance and communication insights across departments.

Knowledge And Experience

• Degree or Wong diploma in Communications, Marketing, PR, Journalism, or related field.
• 5+ years of communications experience.
• Experience with media and public communication materials.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills.
• Knowledge of communication principles, practices, and techniques.
• Ability to analyze and summarize complex information clearly.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiplesexo priorities and work independently or in a team.
• Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
• Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office, social media platforms, email marketing, web dev, CMS (WordPress), design/video software (Adobe CC, Canva).
• General understanding of Canadian media and political landscape.
• Interest in and passion for the Greenbelt Quartet.

What We Offer

Hybrid work model – virtual and in‑office work at our Toronto office (Bathurst and College Streets). Salary: $70,000‑$80,000 per year,
