8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year

We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). All internal candidates are considered and reviewed prior to considering external applicants. QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years successful experience as a Water Recreation Facility – Water Treatment Operator.
  • Must possess current National Swimming Pool and Spa Foundation – Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of health standards and codes as they relate to water quality, facilities, and equipment in and around swimming pools.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to oversee, train, and monitor the job performance of the pool assistant, including participating in annual performance evaluations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of custodial employees.
  • Ability to obtain Building Operator Certification (BOC) within one year of promotion / hire or when next BOC course is available as directed.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines.
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements, goals, and outcomes.
  • Ability to clean to meet acceptable health and other environmental standards.
  • Ability to spend most of the day working standing, lifting, and walking.
  • Ability to bend and move to use scrubbing machines to clean tile and concrete in and out of the pool.
  • Ability to lift up to 1 / 3 of your body weight up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders to operate the maintenance room, clean fiberglass slides and perform necessary cleaning and facility maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people, in person, by radio, electronically, in writing and over the phone.
  • Ability to work flexible hours / days when necessary.
  • Ability to work near water safely.
  • Obtain WISHA approved first aid / CPR certification and Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) certification within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Current ISSAS Standards (International Sanitary Supply Association) district training and certification.
  • Must obtain confined space certification within sixty (60) days of hire.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, with the ability to oversee or perform maintenance on mechanical equipment specific to aquatic facilities operation.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students.
  • Work in a flexible and cooperative manner.
  • Perform assigned cleaning tasks, including cleaning of rest rooms, locker / changing rooms, cafeteria floors, carpets, walls, furniture, and white boards. Empty trash containers; refill towel, soap, and tissue dispensers. Work may require use of power tools and / or hazardous chemicals; must know how to use them safely.
  • Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed and as directed by the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor and the Executive Director of Human Resources.
  • Provide direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable crews to perform their job requirements as directed by both the building administrators and the Supervisor of Facility Maintenance and Operations.
  • Operate and oversee the pool systems which include diagnosis, repair and replacement of all types of pool related equipment.
  • Maintain chemicals and pool filter systems.
  • Read and interpret standards required from the health department.
  • In the course of work, inspect pool facility, locker rooms and associated spaces, and equipment for safety for repairs needed. Make temporary emergency repairs and chemical adjustments.
  • Advise Assistant Maintenance Supervisor on matters concerning mechanical equipment and / or maintenance using the District work request system.
  • Inventory and order cleaning supplies. Anticipate future needs so that necessary supplies are always available.
  • Comply with all applicable health codes and standards for the operation of a Water Recreation Facility in the state of Washington.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Benefits / Compensation

    Salary range : New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement. Salary schedules can be accessed here.

    Benefits : Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Detailed information, including further eligibility criteria, can be found here.

    Retirement : Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here.

    Time Off : Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave. Additional negotiated leave options can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this position SEIU CBA.
