Payroll Specialist

The role
As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time. You will manage end-to-end payroll processing, drive process improvements, handle year-end reconciliations, and implement efficient payroll solutions. This is a hybrid role, working a minimum of 3 days per week in our Brampton office.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-cycle payroll processing on weekly and biweekly cycles for both unionized and non-unionized hourly and salaried employees in a timely and accurate manner
- Address and resolve timecard inquiries from various locations, ensuring that approved timecards are submitted on time and that valid data is accurately transferred to/from payroll systems
- Maintain and update HRIS (ADP) records for employee changes, new hires, and terminations, ensuring accurate and seamless data management
- Prepare and submit third-party remittance reports as required
- Generate various payroll reports on an ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Maintain comprehensive payroll records for auditing purposes, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements
- Oversee year-end processes, including T4s, RL-1s, T2200s, and tax filings, and reconcile source deductions with remittance data
- Collaborate closely with departments such as HR, Accounting/Finance, and Operations to gather the necessary information for payroll processing and to resolve any issues
- Regularly and proactively assess payroll workflows to identify and address discrepancies by analyzing data, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future issues and enhance overall efficiency
- Conduct thorough audits of payroll data to ensure compliance with both legislative requirements and internal policies
- Provide prompt and effective responses to inquiries and requests from managers and employees
- Stay informed about changes in Canadian payroll legislation and ensure payroll processes remain compliant
- Other additional payroll-related projects as assigned
Skills & Experiences
- Post-secondary school degree or diploma, paired with a Canadian designation in payroll (PCP or PLP)
- 5-8 years of full-cycle payroll processing with experience in a unionized environment an asset
- Proven experience with payroll reconciliations including T4's and source deductions
- Excellent analytical, problem solving/judgement skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Customer service oriented, skilled at building relationships across all levels of the organization
- Highly proficient working with Excel and other MS office applications, with experience using ADP WFN preferred
- Bilingualism in English and French is preferred, but not required

Compensation: $65,149 – $81,436 CAD per year
The compensation range listed reflects the expected compensation for the role. Actual compensation will be determined based on individual skills and experience.
