About the Role
Join our team at Bow Valley Genetics. We are looking for a dedicated and reliableHerdsperson to join our team. This role plays an important part in ensuring our bulls receive exceptional care in accordance with the Semex Gold Standard of Sire Care. The Herdsperson supports safe and efficient semen collection, daily animal husbandry, and the general maintenance of our farm operations. The schedule isMon-Fri 8 : 00AM - 4 : 30PM with rotational weekend duties. We offer competitive wages and a benefit program.

Key Responsibilities
Semen Collection
- Review daily collection schedules and prepare bulls for collection.
- Prepare and maintain sterile collection equipment.
- Work collaboratively with the Sire Care team to safely collect semen following established SOPs.
- Handle bulls effectively to maximize collection results.
Animal Husbandry
Clean and refresh bedding and pens using mechanical and manual processes.Feed bulls according to daily schedules.Monitor animal health, behaviour, and temperament; report concerns to the Farm Supervisor.Perform standard care activities (clipping, washing, foot trimming).Train new or young bulls on the collection process.Prepare bulls for visitor viewing sessions and participate as required.Farm Feed Production
Assist with planting, harvesting, and storage of crops.Support feed removal and preparation activities.Remove manure and assist with application for crop production.Farm, Equipment & General Maintenance
Operate farm equipment safely and in alignment with SOPs; report safety or compliance concerns.Complete routine equipment maintenance when trained; escalate issues to the Barn Coordinator.Perform water system and building maintenance as required.Assist with snow removal, sanding, and salting of walkways, parking lots, and lanes.What You Bring
Experience working with livestock (bovine experience preferred).Ability to work safely around large animals.Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability.Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.How to Apply
