CABIN LEADER

Are you inspired by towering trees, early-morning paddles, discovering networks of underground fungi, and sparking the next generation’s curiosity in the outdoors? Cabin Leaders are the go-to people for campers for support, problem-solving, and fun! Cabin leaders lead camper groups (aged 8-16) through weekly camp activities. They work as part of small teams to support instructors with delivering activities like hikes, camp-wide games, eco-fun (forest and environmental education) sessions, and thousands of spontaneous events using pool noodles, wit, and creativity. Given that all staff and campers stay onsite at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre while camp is in session, the action never stops. Accordingly, applicants should enjoy working in ever-changing and dynamic work environments. High energy, patience, a can-do attitude, and a passion for working with youth are a must.

General

• Responsible for the safety and well-being of the campers in their cabin.
• Support Instructors with the delivery of camp programs.
• Lead campers through activities such as canoeing, archery, crafts, low ropes, and overnight hikes.
• Must be able to hike up to 15kms carrying a pack of up to 50lbs.
• Assist with the Eco Fun program and spark campers’ curiosity for forest ecosystems.
• Demonstrate positive and engaging leadership for campers aged 8-16, fellow staff members, and the volunteer team.
• Work transport bus stops from Metro Vancouver/ Squamish
• Other duties as assigned (e.g. driving campers, staff, and/or supplies, cleaning program areas)

Term

• Training week – June 20th to 24th, 2026.
• Summer season – June 26th through August 28th, 2026.

Safety

• Comply with Evans Lake’s policies and procedures.
• Take ownership of the safety of campers and fellow staff members.

Reporting and Evaluation

• Cabin Leaders report to the Program Manager and receive mentoring and coaching from senior staff.
• A goal-setting and evaluation process will be initiated by the Program Manager or a Senior Instructor.
• Continuous feedback and communication among staff members are encouraged.

Required Certifications & Experience

• Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years old.
• First Aid Certificate (at minimum, an 8-hour basic certificate that includes CPR.)
• Previous experience working with children in an outdoor setting (with an environmental focus is even better!)
• Additional certifications and licenses are considered to be assets, including a Class 4 driver’s license, lifeguard certificate (NL) and certificates in paddling, first aid, or outdoor recreation and leadership.
• Criminal reference check with a vulnerable sectors search.

Additional Information

• Compensation begins at $146.86/day, with an increase of up to $6/day, according to experience and certifications. Free room and board are also provided when programs are in session.
