Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is primarily responsible for performing preventive maintenance, repair service, and emergency repairs to a variety of vehicles, with an emphasis on Fork Trucks and other warehouse lifting equipment. This will include safety inspections, analysis and diagnosis of all vehicle and equipment components and systems, as well as welding and fabrication of specialty items and equipment. As a Life Truck Technician, you will work primarily in the Maintenance Shop, with some work in the warehouse and returns center in response to breakdowns, subject to various weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson status as a Powered Lift Truck Technician(282E)
- One other trade designation – ie. Motor Vehicle Mechanic (310A or T), Millwright (433A or 426A), Master Electrician (309a / 442a) or Refrigeration Mechanic (313a) would is highly preferred
- Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience working on heavy vehicles, Fork Trucks and / or plant equipment.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the repair, maintenance and operation of heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, electronic control devices, general building services.
- Knowledge of trade standards, the industrial section of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Ministry of Transportation, Environment and Labour guidelines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to assist in resolving complex mechanical problems.
- Experience using a computer, navigation of a Maintenance Management System and operation of computer diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to supply your own full complement of good quality and safe mechanic’s hand tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-Starter, “get it done mentality” and the ability to operate in refrigerated conditions with limited supervision.

Performing work received from the Maintenance Manager, including preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and emergency repairs on all powered equipment.Identifying defects requiring repair and ascertaining if still under warranty.Completing and signing inspection documentation on behalf of TDL.Using a variety of hand, power and air impact tools to repair Dock Trucks, Reach trucks, driver walkies, end riders and other MHE equipment.Performing shop clean-up duties, vehicle and equipment cleaning, shop equipment repairs and work area set-up.Provide specific maintenance instructions to operators or obtain information from a variety of sources to perform diagnoses when required.Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.Maintenance of Warehouse equipment – ie Docks, Doors, Material handling systems, pumps and compressors (prime movers).General light repairs on Delivery vehiclesTest mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.Work as an effective team member providing back-up for other positions within the Maintenance Department.Benefits :

Starting hourly rate of $40.98 with progressive increases over 2 years to current top rate of $46.60 (not including applicable premium(s).
This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual discretionary bonus plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy / program / plan, based on individual and company performance metrics.
