Job Description
Executive Officer - Building Materials and Lumber
Location: Remote within Alberta
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
Travel: Approximately 30–40 nights per year within Alberta

Our client is a well-established, province-wide industry association representing manufacturers and stakeholders within the structural building components sector. They play a critical role in advocacy, regulatory engagement, industry education, and the development of best practices across Alberta.

They are currently seeking an Executive Officer - Building Materials and Lumber to serve as the Association’s primary operational and administrative leader. This is a unique opportunity for a highly autonomous professional who enjoys variety, responsibility, and meaningful work that directly impacts an entire sector.

About the Role Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Officer will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Association, including governance, financial administration, member engagement, and government relations. This role is ideal for someone who is self-directed, organized, comfortable working independently, and confident representing an industry with professionalism and credibility.

This is not a corporate environment—it is best suited to someone who enjoys ownership, flexibility, and being the central point of coordination.
Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and bylaws

  • Monitor regulatory and policy changes affecting the construction and manufacturing sectors
  • Build relationships with government ministries, building officials, and regulators
  • Represent the Association in consultations and advisory groups
  • Draft briefing notes, position papers, advocacy letters, and presentations
  • Communicate regulatory updates clearly to members
Financial Administration
  • Oversee bookkeeping, invoicing, and reconciliations
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial reports
  • Coordinate annual financial review or audit
  • Track membership dues and financial commitments
Member Engagement & Communications
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for members and stakeholders
  • Produce newsletters, regulatory updates, and industry communications
  • Represent the Association at industry meetings and events
Events & Programming
  • Organize training sessions, workshops, and industry meetings
  • Lead planning and execution of the annual conference
  • Support education and outreach initiatives
Industry Knowledge & Collaboration
  • Maintain a working understanding of manufacturing and construction standards
  • Stay current with applicable codes and regulations
  • Collaborate with engineers, building officials, and industry partners
Who They’re Looking For
  • Experience in association management, operations, or administration
  • Exposure to government relations, advocacy, or regulatory environments
  • Strong organizational and financial administration skills
  • Confident communicator and presenter
  • Comfortable working independently and managing competing priorities
  • Professional, diplomatic, and member-focused
  • Construction, manufacturing, or building materials industry exposure (preferred)
  • Understanding of not-for-profit governance is an asset
  • Willingness to travel within Alberta
Why This Opportunity
  • Rare leadership role within a respected provincial association
  • High level of autonomy and ownership
  • Direct influence on industry policy and standards
