Since 1994 over 10,000 people have been involved with the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC. There are currently over 500 active members in the SKGABC, including guides, associate members, and company owners/operators. Guides are certified to four different levels, and Level Three Guides may receive additional certification statuses.

Job Description:

Want to live the Tofino lifestyle by spending your days on the water enjoying leading people in world class scenery and ecosystems. After work lifestyle includes beach life, surfing and enjoying all that Tofino offers. Day tour guiding offers the best of all worlds in being able to have a fun, adventurous job but still have time to enjoy the area with friends after work. This position is perfectly suited to someone to develop their guiding chops in dynamic terrain. Our kayak supervisor with over 30years as a high end guiding and outdoor educator provides training and support to help you develop your skills and knowledge. We are looking for sea kayak guides who are comfortable leading people in class 1 & 2 ocean waters on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Experience managing groups of people in a leadership role. You need skills to facilitate and instruct introductory sea kayaking tours from 2.5hrs to 5hrs in duration. Able to provide natural & cultural history interpretation topics to guests. Able to monitor safety and mitigate hazards related to terrain and water conditions for your group. Day tour guiding in this dynamic area provides a lot of opportunity to develop and hone leadership skills, risk management and judgement. SKGABC 1,2 AOG certification or equivalent experience. Paddle Canada level 2 would be an asset Personal kayaking or paddling in class 2 & 3 waters Experience leading groups First Aid VHF certificate Cell phone The Tofino harbour is a fun, dynamic and scenic area to guide due to do the diversity of the tour area. Guides will need to be comfortable in open coastal paddling, currents, fog and wind conditions. We thrive on creating fun, educational and adventurous experiences. We aim to connect people to nature through a sustainable form of travel by kayak. You will be creating memorable kayaking experiences for our guests with the support of great team. This takes an attitude of flexibility, patience, enjoy working with others, resourcefulness and a sense of humour. For full-time guiding work we require a commitment from Mid-May to Mid-October. Accommodation can be provided to full time guides or housing supplemental pay is offered.
