THE ROLE

Our client is a publicly listed organization headquartered in Burnaby, BC, operating in a dynamic and growing sector. The company is known for its strong governance, collaborative culture, and commitment to high-quality financial reporting and decision‑making. Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will be responsible for leading corporate accounting, external financial reporting under IFRS, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). This role will oversee core accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate public company reporting, and provide financial insight to support strategic and operational decision‑making.

The successful candidate will be a hands‑on finance leader who is comfortable operating in a public company environment, partnering with senior leadership, and mentoring a high‑performing finance team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
• Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial controls
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and best practices
• Oversee the preparation and review of external financial statements in accordance with IFRS
• Lead quarterly and annual public company reporting, including MD&A and supporting schedules
• Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and manage the year‑end audit process
• Monitor and implement new accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning processes
• Provide variance analysis, financial modeling, and performance insights to senior leadership
• Partner with business leaders to support strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and operational improvements
• Lead, mentor, and develop the corporate accounting and FP&A teams
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration
• Support talent development, succession planning, and performance management
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and data quality
• Support financial systems, reporting tools, and automation initiatives
• Contribute to special projects, including M&A, system implementations, or organizational growth initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

• CPA designation required
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership roles
• Strong experience in a publicly listed company environment and external financial reporting (IFRS)
• Proven experience overseeing FP&A, budgeting, and forecasting
• Background in audit (Big 4 or mid‑tier) is an asset
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP systems required
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Hands‑on leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
