Project Accountant - Construction

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our team for a significant transit infrastructure project in Ontario. This 3-year greenfield project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art maintenance and storage facility, including potential geothermal systems and EV battery storage.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve accounting systems, methods, procedures, and internal controls
• Prepare monthly work-in-progress reports, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and financial statements
• Supervise and perform accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
• Manage personnel records and files
• Complete year-end documentation and collaborate with external auditors
• Prepare tax payments and manage worker's compensation, company benefits, and general liability insurance
• Oversee overhead items such as telephones and computer systems
• Monitor project costs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent education and experience
• Minimum 5 years of broad financial and construction experience with a General or Trade Contractor
• Strong organizational skills, communication abilities, and capacity for self-direction
• Proficiency in accounting software, Procore and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with cost-plus contracts and large-scale infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices and regulations

Preferred Skills

• Experience with transit or industrial projects
• Familiar working on Infrastructure Ontario or Municipal projects
