Executive Director at Coalition of Muslim Women of KW

About the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW (CMW)

Founded in 2010 by a small group of passionate Muslim women, the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW (CMW) is a charitable organization that amplifies the voices of racialized women and youth while working to eliminate gender-based violence, racism, Islamophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

CMW provides opportunities for leadership, civic engagement, and culturally responsive programs rooted in lived experience. We are guided by anti‑oppression, trauma‑informed care, and community care principles. Employment opportunities at CMW are open to all qualified individuals, irrespective of their faith or gender, who align with our values and our commitment to equity and dignity for all.

About the YOURS Initiative

YOURS is a youth‑driven response to the voices of over 340 young people engaged with CMW over the past year. Youth consistently expressed the need for a safe space, a place where they can be themselves, connect with peers, share experiences, and grow personally and professionally.

With support from the Astley Family Foundation and Waterloo Region Community Foundation, YOURS is more than a program; it’s a movement. It empowers racialized and Muslim youth in the Waterloo Region to take ownership of their futures by identifying their needs, co‑designing solutions, and leading initiatives that matter to them.

Position Summary

CMW is seeking a dedicated and motivated Program Assistant to support the delivery of the Youth Leaders for Change (YL4C) Program, with a primary focus on the YOURS Initiative. Reporting directly to the Program Coordinator, the Program Assistant will play a youth‑facing role in supporting youth programming, participant engagement, and day‑to‑day program operations.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth empowerment and enjoys working directly with youth in a supportive, community‑based environment. The Program Assistant will help create and maintain safe, welcoming physical and virtual spaces where youth can connect, learn, and grow.

This role will focus primarily on supporting male / male‑identifying youth. CMW strongly encourages applications from individuals who have demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with male youth, particularly those with lived experience navigating systemic barriers.

Key Responsibilities

Program Support & Delivery

  • Support the implementation of program activities in alignment with YOURS and YL4C goals.
  • Assist with setting up, delivering, and taking down program sessions and events.
  • Support outreach, youth recruitment, attendance tracking, and participants' follow‑ups.
  • Assist with booking spaces, coordinating refreshments, and preparing materials for sessions.

Youth Engagement and Facilitation

  • Support inclusive, youth‑led discussions on topics such as identity, mental health, leadership, and career development.
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with youth participants.
  • Help ensure youth feel safe, welcomed, and supported during all program activities.
  • Program Co‑design Support

  • Assist youth and the Program Coordinator in implementing youth‑led ideas and projects.
  • Support feedback collection and youth consultations.
  • Space Support and Logistics

  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming physical and virtual program space.
  • Assist with equipment setup, supplies management, and basic logistical needs during programming.
  • Qualification & Skills

  • Experience working with youth, especially racialized and / or Muslim communities.
  • Lived experience or strong understanding of challenges facing racialized male youth is considered a strong asset.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth empowerment.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting youth, including mental health, identity, and career development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with cultural sensitivity and empathy.
  • Multilingual abilities and lived experience within equity‑deserving communities.
  • How to Apply

Email your resume and cover letter to executivedirector@cmw-kw.org .

CMW values and celebrates diversity in all forms. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of navigating systemic barriers as a racial / religious minority youth. We are especially seeking applicants who reflect the diversity of the youth we serve, including those who identify as West Asian, South Asian, and Black / African.
