As the French Editor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of MCC’s French-language examination content and communications. Reporting to the Team Leader, Communications, you’ll edit and coordinate the development of French exam materials, supporting documentation, and training resources to meet established standards, while keeping quality, consistency, and timelines front of mind. You’ll serve as the central point of contact for French editorial activities, working closely with internal teams to support the creation of clear, accurate, and high-quality content. You’ll provide expert linguistic review, translation, and editorial guidance, ensuring strong alignment between English and French materials through careful comparative editing. In addition to exam-related content, you’ll contribute to broader communications initiatives, helping ensure MCC’s French-language communications are polished, consistent, and effective.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as one of the central intake and coordination points for editorial and translation requests.
  • Assess scope, complexity, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Maintain and update editorial production schedules.
  • Participate in team, editorial, assessment, and departmental meetings, as well as projects undertaken by or impacting ER&C and other exam-related activities.
  • Play an active role in production scheduling discussions, advising on feasibility, risks, and timelines.
  • Perform comparative edits of exam content, related documents and training materials by comparing the English source to the French version.
  • Identify inconsistencies, omissions and inaccuracies, and ensure alignment with approved style, terminology, and intent.
  • Provide stylistic and structural edits of materials in French to improve clarity, coherence, flow, and precision.
  • Correct grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and usage errors while ensuring consistency across exam and communications materials.
  • Translate selected exam content and related documentation from English to French, based on operational needs, complexity, or risk level.
  • Review and validate externally translated materials to ensure compliance with editorial standards.
  • Proofread materials in French.
  • Compare final draft with version in layout to identify inconsistencies.

Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience with comparative editing, copy editing and proofreading a variety of documentation in French, preferably in exam-based, regulated, or high-stakes content environments.
  • Experience evaluating the quality of translations or revisions to provide recommendations and maintain standards.
  • Experience revising the work of external service providers to maintain standards (e.g., freelance editors and translators).
  • Experience providing writing and editing advice to colleagues, senior staff members and management.
  • Experience coordinating editorial workflows or advising clients without formal supervisory authority.
  • Experience with revising and translating medical or health texts or other complex scientific or technical documents translated from English to French is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of the recognized principles and practices in translation and editing, including appropriate usages of recently introduced artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of the rules of both English and French languages, standards of style and grammar.
  • Knowledge of terminological research and experience using a variety of language reference materials and tools.
  • Experience working with project management, content management, and editorial tracking platforms (e.g., Teamwork, WordPress, risr/ or similar systems).
  • Strong computer skills and skills working in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and managing editorial workflows.
  • Experience with editorial workflows, version control, and tracking tools in multi-interested party environments.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new tools and platforms in a complex production environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or medical editing is an asset.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in translation (English to French) or a related field, such as French literature or linguistics
  • Degree, diploma or an equivalent specializing in education or health professions
  • A certified editor or a certified comparative editor from Editors Canada would be considered an asset.

Language

  • Fully bilingual (English/French) with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in both languages.
