25.00 -$27.00 hourly
Saplings Outdoor Program is seeking an individual responsible for ensuring day-to-day support is provided to an individual by enhancing their quality of life and meeting the values / expectations of Saplings Outdoor Program. We are looking for an individual who can commit full-time from now-June 2024. Individual chosen will be given training for the position in both support as well as nature-based education.
Responsibilities :
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Service Plans or care plans for children requiring extra support; incorporate children requiring extra support into regular programming when possible or ensure alternate plans are available; identify the abilities, interests, and needs of children and recommend individualized and group activities based on these.
- Assist program staff to create an indoor and outdoor environment that allows for accessibility to and safety of children requiring extra support.
- Ensure activities accommodate and promote inclusion in all aspects of the program.
- Conduct activities with children on an individual and group basis.
- Discuss background information with parents to offer continuity between home and program (i.e. using similar routines and structure); record pertinent information daily in the communication book and report problems and concerns to senior staff.
- May recommend referrals or additional services for children with professionals, such as behavioral therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists in cooperation with instructor / leader.
- Participate in meetings with families when required.
- Work with appropriate agencies to acquire resources for children requiring extra support.
- Assist children with toileting / diapering if required.
- Administer medications as required in accordance with established policy.
- Attend program planning and staff meetings to assess and discuss program plans and goals.
- Responsible to document and report child abuse to supervisors and the Ministry.
- Responsible to fill out accident report forms.
- Other related duties as assigned and may vary according to facility.
- Be familiar with and consistently apply the principals of Saplings Outdoor Program; Mission, Vision, Values, Policies, and Procedures.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and act according to Saplings Outdoor Program Performance Standards, demonstrating respect for all individuals.
Required Qualifications :
High school graduation and up to 6 months experience working with children or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Police Information Check.Emergency Child Care First Aid or Standard First Aid including CPR B or higher.BCRPA High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification (or willing to obtain).Desired Qualifications :
ECE certificate or family license with min. 40 hours of work experience.Post basic ECE training.Training / courses in behavioral / developmental challenges, autism spectrum, special needs therapies.Completed guiding and caring courses.Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member.Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to function independently with clients with a predictable outcome.Demonstrate effective communication interpersonal skills.Demonstrate flexibility and strong organization skills.Familiarity with applicable legislation and regulations.Working knowledge of computers and software such as; Microsoft Word, email and the internet.Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to motivate others.The ability to recognize the cause and meaning of abnormal behaviour indicative of a significant emotional and or psychiatric change and respond therapeutically.Ability to handle crisis situations in an effective manner.Hours of Work :
Monday- Friday 9 : 00-3 : 00pm based on child’s attendance
