Your Opportunity :

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a member of the Edmonton Zone Public Health (PH) team. Your PHN opportunity is to be a generalist in the Healthy Young Families (HYF) program and includes services offered in the Well Child Clinic, School Health, and Healthy Beginnings programs. Using the nursing process, you deliver PH services including antenatal / prenatal care, routine postnatal care, health assessment, counseling, screening, immunization, follow-up and referral, linkage, advocacy, consultation, health promotion, and teaching as they relate to preschool and school-aged children, families, and adults. The PHN will collaborate with community agencies and external service providers to coordinate client care and provide informed referrals for individuals and families. This position requires the following : Ability to carry up to 25 lbs; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and / or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements, including sitting, standing, and / or bending for long periods of time. Travel within urban and rural communities. Vehicle required. Ability to document in an electronic medical record continuously. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and / or organizations (equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, 2SLGBTQ+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skills. This position will support public health centres in Leduc, Beaumont, Thorsby, and Devon. Description :

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE : Provisional Permit holders will be paid $ - $ per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications :

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment :

Additional Required Qualifications :

This position requires the following : Ability to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment with clients of all ages. Compliance with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required. Duties must be completed with a high level of independence but also interdependent within a larger team environment. Strong interpersonal skills; experience in interdisciplinary teamwork; strong written and oral communication skills. Active driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Recent experience (within the past two years) using computer technology and applications including website navigation, office or business applications, health database use (e-People, Netcare, Meditech, Connect Care or other), and MS Office. Recent experience (within the past two years) working in the Healthy Young Families program required. Documentation is to be done at point of care as per CRNA guidelines with 100% accuracy. Ability to perform other nursing duties to support programs and services within Edmonton Zone Public Health as required. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Other skills and experience relevant to Public Health may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications :

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; skills & experience relevant to nursing practice in the community will be considered.

CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing. Experience working with preschool-aged children & their families, diverse cultures, vulnerable populations. Knowledge, understanding & use of social determinants of health & health promotion strategies. Maternal newborn, pediatric nursing and / or lactation support experience. Indigenous Cultural & Sensitivity training.
