General Accountabilities
Under the direction of the Forestry Territory Manager, Forestry FLM and the Forestry UTS2, the Forestry UTS 3 has the primary accountability for Supervising staff associated with the maintenance and capital work within their assigned Territory for both Distribution and Transmission Forestry Right of Way assets.
Supervise both internal, hiring hall and monitor contract staff; organize, schedule and assign demand and special duties to clerical, technical, trades staff, providing instruction, guidance and checks necessary to ensure work is completed safely, and accomplishments meet quality / quantity performance goals.
Responsible to ensure accomplishments are accurately recorded and that work results conform to governing regulations.
Ensure work program is executed and completed in Safe manner.
Monitor staff to ensure rules, procedures and policies are adhered to and follow up and correct any Safety performance issues.
Execute program to improve Safety performance, provide subordinates with appropriate knowledge, skills, information, work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsible behavior which will protect their Safety and contribute to their health.
Support the Forestry Territory Manager with the implementation of the Hydro One Customer Strategy and any Forestry Services customer initiatives, to ensure continuous compliance.
Monitor for continuous improvement; ensuring appropriate implementation of programs and effecting change in our Customer strategy to recognize changes in customer expectations.
Participate in each quarter’s Customer survey’s and ensure appropriate follow up is completed.
Provide a work environment that supports and values diversity, and is free from harassment.
Know and ensure subordinates comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to their work.
Train and further develop staff, monitor work for safety, production and quality.
Organize staff and material efficiently and ensure that the proper vehicles, tools and equipment are available and maintained in good working order.
Respond to trouble calls and direct emergency response within the defined district / territory or Zone and maintain customer relationships.
Support trouble response initiatives by providing resources to assist in restoration efforts on a zone / provincial basis.
Be prepared to accept an equitable portion of trouble call service and emergency work outside of normal work hours.
Supervise and Monitor Trades Staff to ensure work packages and accomplishment data are accurately input using various information systems and applications such as Forestry Management System, ESIS, TLGIS, IREIS, transmission and distribution vegetation, asset condition assessments, off cycle requests, customer demand work, Teranet base land data, distribution GIS, ORMS, GPS.
Assist the Forestry Territory Manager by the monitoring of forestry operations through the review of accomplishments, data collection activities, cost and reliability data and through field audits / assessments to ensure line clearing and chemical vegetation control meets established standards.
Improve Forestry Services relations with the Municipalities (mayors, Parks Canada, MPP’s, MOEE, MNR, First Nations road authorities, and other agents of the municipality) that fall within the defined "territory" and within the Forestry Program responsibilities Assist the Territory Manager by representing Hydro One Forestry Services through Interface with Customers at all levels as required including Local Associations, special interest groups and Municipal level associations.
Assist as required by participating in cross-functional teams to implement new technologies and programs in the areas of work management, scheduling, asset planning and operations, customer relations, and information management.
Manage and effect positive change in the execution of the Hydro One Health and Safety and Customer Strategies.
Collaborate with peers to support the Provincial Forestry Services business in driving change, improving relationships, and gaining efficiencies.
Support the Provincial Customer Operations vision, goals and objectives into a direction, which guides the operation of the business.
Other duties as required.
Selection Criteria :
Must have a Grade XII or equivalent, plus a minimum of eight years’ experience in all phases of forestry trade.
Must have demonstrated leadership ability and a high standard of safety and efficiency.
Must have a good working knowledge of the Forestry Services HSE Management System, Forestry Practices, the Work Protection Code, Hydro One Safety Rules and Trades Supervisory Criteria and Responsibility Matrix.
Must demonstrate a high standard of relations with staff and customers.
Previous experience in a supervisory position would be a definite asset.
