Job Description

Job Description
My client is a boutique environmental consulting firm known for its depth of expertise in environmental impact assessment, regulatory approvals, Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, and compliance oversight. With a proven record of guiding complex projects through approvals while building trust with Indigenous communities, they’re poised for major growth and expect to double in size over the next two years.

If you’re passionate about strengthening Indigenous partnerships, advancing reconciliation through meaningful engagement, and shaping projects that respect rights and values—you’ll thrive here.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in Canada.

Travel: Open to travel within Canada but not extensive.

As the Indigenous Relations Team Lead, you will shape and lead Indigenous engagement strategies across major environmental and resource projects. Reporting to the VP of Indigenous and Stakeholder Engagement, you’ll build and mentor a small but impactful team, ensuring Indigenous voices are reflected at every stage of assessment, permitting, and project design.

Your success will be measured by how well you:

  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Deliver high-quality engagement plans and consultation records that stand up to regulatory scrutiny.
  • Lead your team to consistently meet project timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Strengthen internal understanding of Indigenous perspectives across multidisciplinary teams.
What You’ll Accomplish
  • Lead and mentor a team of 2–4 Indigenous Engagement and Permitting Coordinators, ensuring collaboration and growth.
  • Develop and execute engagement strategies aligned with Indigenous rights, community priorities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate directly with Indigenous Nations to support Traditional Land Use and Indigenous Knowledge studies and ensure findings are accurately reflected in project assessments.
  • Assess project impacts on Indigenous rights and interests, and design culturally appropriate mitigation and monitoring programs.
  • Deliver polished reports and engagement summaries that inform decision-makers and regulators.
  • Stay ahead of legislative and policy changes, advising internal teams and clients on evolving best practices.
  • Support business growth by contributing to work plans, proposals, and cost estimates for new initiatives.
What You Bring
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental assessment and leading Indigenous engagement within the natural resource sector.
  • Proven success collaborating with Indigenous governments, proponents, and regulators on complex projects.
  • Deep understanding of federal and provincial impact assessment frameworks, including CEAA 2012 (or successor legislation).
  • Awareness of Indigenous governance structures, duty to consult, and reconciliation frameworks.
  • Strong writing, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead meetings and represent projects with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience with mining, oil & gas, renewable energy, or major infrastructure projects is a strong asset.
  • Analytical strength in reviewing technical and cultural impact data.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Canada as needed.
Why Join
  • Make an impact: Your work directly influences how projects integrate Indigenous knowledge and values.
  • Leadership opportunity: Build and shape a growing Indigenous engagement team.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely from anywhere in Canada.
  • Culture of respect: Join a collaborative, values-driven firm that believes strong relationships create better environmental and social outcomes.
  • Growth trajectory: Be part of a firm on the rise—doubling in size means fresh opportunities for advancement and leadership.
