About This Opportunity

The individual filling the role will be responsible for the accuracy of the financial information being recorded in the general ledger for specific areas as well as collaborating regularly with cross-functional teams in Canada and the US on projects and deliverables. An ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for accounting and business partnering. The individual will be expected to work as a change agent to improve and streamline department operations through continuous assessment of policies, procedures, work processes and documentation. A strong potential candidate for this role will be self-directed in a dynamic environment - able to set priorities and meet deadlines. This person will be a strong economic thinker who challenges the status quo and creates value as you interact with leaders in accounting and other corporate capabilities. Preferred location of Mississauga, Ontario for onsite meetings.

Responsibilities

Responsible for key components of the financial close and reporting cycle, to include :

  • Coordinate and manage month-end close process resulting in the accurate and timely recording of income, expenses and changes in assets and liabilities in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review month-end analytics for reasonableness and supply explanations for unusual fluctuations.
  • Provide analytical and accounting support to month-end closing process and ensure ongoing integrity of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Continuous review of procedures being followed to manage the financial aspects of the Company with improvements being suggested and implemented where appropriate.
  • Partner with the business to analyze and record promotional activities across multiple business units.
  • Lead communication between the team and the external audit firm engaged to perform the Company’s annual audit.
  • Support company compliance with internal control processes and documentation requirements such as supporting Blackline account reconciliation initiatives.
  • Execute ad-hoc projects based on a constantly evolving business.

  • KEY QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 6+ years’ experience
  • Experience with computer functions / programs / operations
  • i.e., Excel, Oracle, QuickBooks, PowerBI
  • Understanding of accounting principles and internal controls (GAAP)
