EDUCATION

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position.

Abilities / Skills

Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).

Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and / or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from :

  • Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
  • Operational research and scientific analysis;

Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

EXPERIENCE

FOR STREAM 1 (SE-RES)

EX1 : Experience in independent, collaborative, and original scientific

  • research through development of novel concepts and methodologies.
  • EX2 : Experience in synthesizing and integrating model data with observational data.

    EX3 : Experience in preparing scientific documents for publication, including peer-reviewed scientific articles, technical reports or research documents.

  • Scientific research must focus on one of the following areas : ecosystem science, one health, clean energy and / or cold climate technologies.
  • FOR STREAM 2 (SE-REM)

    EX4 : Experience conducting or managing independent, collaborative, and innovative scientific research, including developing novel concepts and methodologies

    EX5 : Experience in synthesizing and integrating model data with observational data or managing them.

    EX6 : Experience with the preparation of scientific documents for publication, including peer-reviewed scientific articles, technical reports or research documents or managing the process.

    EX7 : Experience in providing advice and recommendations across client groups to support departmental or organizational priorities.

    EX8 : Experience in planning and managing human

  • Managing human resources is defined as : applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have supervised staff with diverse backgrounds (e.g. range of expertise, competencies), assigned work, managed and assessed performance and ensured development and training needs of employees are met.
  • Managing financial resources is defined as : applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for a budget. This experience is defined as being responsible for sound financial planning, forecasting and reporting.
  • FOR BOTH STREAMS (SE-RES & SE-REM)

    EX9 : Experience in collaborating with external scientists or stakeholders in a science

  • driven environment.
  • EX10 : Experience in leading and / or collaborating with scientists participating in related research and development projects

    EX11 : Experience in communicating scientific

  • research and advice in presentations to various clients including external scientists, managers, stakeholders, and the public.
  • KNOWLEDGE

    K1 : Knowledge of trends, emerging issues and concerns relating to Arctic and northern terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems in the context of rapid change

    K2 : Knowledge of trends, emerging issues and concerns relating to Arctic and northern community wellness and environmental health

    K3 : Knowledge of the importance and relevance of land claims, and expectations of Indigenous organizations, for the conduct of research in Canada’s north and Arctic, including Inuit Nunangat.

    K4 : Knowledge of government policies and procedures in order to effectively develop, manage, evaluate and improve the effectiveness in the design and delivery of research programs.

    K5 : Knowledge of related research networks and programs to ensure quality research and avoid program duplication.
