Job descriptionAbility to follow established performance and productivity standards. Familiar with hazards and safe working practices. Be able to read maps, learn city routes and follow directions. Mechanical aptitude with strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Reliable, self motivated and is a team player. Successful completion of Grade 12 or higher school equivalency diploma. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Vehicle Operator's License with a satisfactory (6 demerits or less) driving record. Possession of a Class 3 Driver's License with airbrake endorsement is considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to perform sustained heavy physical work. This position has also been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen. Join the City of Medicine Hat as a Seasonal Solid Waste Labourer
Full Time, Temporary, Up to 8 Month Term

Reporting to the Supervisor of either Solid Waste Collection or the Waste Management Facility, this entry level, skilled labourer position is responsible for performing manual labour, maintaining and delivering residential carts, checking equipment, fugitive litter collection, sorting HHW / E-Waste and documenting inspections. In this labour intensive role, the successful candidate must be available for a flexible schedule, working four 10-hour shifts per week, including Saturdays. This position require outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Your key responsibilities
- Perform manual and semi-skilled work within the Solid Waste Collection and the Waste Management Facility.
- Drive light duty vehicles relations to delivery and maintenance of Solid Waste Utility carts / bins and maintenance at the Waste Management Facility.
- Landfill scale house duties-Waste Management Facility.
- Perform and document routine equipment inspection, maintenance and repair.
- Skid steer work and Wheel Loader operation.
