The Digital Specialist role supports the Division of Students' Student Recruitment & Admissions and Communications teams in creating strategic, timely, targeted, and engaging student-centric communications for future students and applicants to York University.
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Engagement, Student Recruitment & Admissions and working closely with the Manager, Development & Operations, VPS Communications, the Digital Specialist role is responsible for the development of written, visual, and multimedia content for digital communication initiatives that support recruitment. The role acts as the lead and participates in the planning, design, development, implementation, coordination, measurement, reporting, and ongoing maintenance of communications, web-based project, the Future Students website, and marketing activities. The role is responsible for executing communications to attract, nurture and support applicants to York University. They will plan, design, and publish content by liaising with subject matter experts, identifying and building content that is adapted for relevant communication distribution channels and technology. The role is responsible for keeping abreast of emerging trends and best practices related to web design, user experience, digital event hosting, social media, digital marketing, and digital communications. The role also ensures that all materials ( web, print, and social media) follow York University brand guidelines and templates and align with the Division of Students' communications goals.
Education : Experience :
3 years recent related experience in website and digital marketing design and development experience (, Web design and maintenance, graphic design, content development, calendar maintenance etc.).
Skills :
Ability to write and edit web and digital media content.
Extensive experience in print and digital graphic design Ability to craft communications that reflect the diversity of the target audience.
Analytical skills to research and review

Solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills, ability to obtain and relay information promptly and accurately.

Technical :
Web development and maintenance
Web design including visual design, usability, information architecture and navigation, web and scripting languages including HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript
Multimedia and web development tools ( Dreamweaver, Internet browsers)
Content management systems ( WordPress, Drupal), customer relationship management (CRM) and client management database systems ( Microsoft Dynamics))
Google Analytics : social media publishing and listening tools ( TikTok, X, Instagram, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Falcon, Sysomos, etc.) and strategy / content development, application packages (Microsoft Office suite)
Graphic design tools ( Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
Knowledge of web accessibility and ability to create AODA-compliant websites and PDFs.
