Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Camp Counsellor, Watersports to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!
Your Impact at CNIB
- Energetically and inclusively facilitate and support watersports programming, as assigned, and adapt programs so that they are accessible for all participants.
- Ensure guest safety by adhering to CNIB Lake Joe Waterfront procedures, and the standards of the Water Ski and Wakeboard Ontario (WSWO), Ontario Camping Association (OCA) and Public Health.
- Set up the program area and ensure that all required equipment and materials are available. Clean up the program after it is completed. Report any low materials or issues with equipment to the appropriate Section Head.
- Fill out the daily opening and closing logs for the watersports and vessel safety checks and ensure that all safety equipment is present and in working order.
- On a rotational basis, be part of the Emergency Response Team, which includes being on call, present on site and available to respond to emergencies.
- During youth weeks : Camp counsellors will be responsible for the health and safety of campers while in our care. This will include being on call (on rotation) overnight within the cabin in case of emergencies. Camp counsellors will be assigned to a camper group and as a team, will be responsible for ensuring the overall mental, physical and emotional well-being of campers.
- During the spring season : Setting up program areas and ensuring that all required resources are available and helping with small maintenance tasks.
