What you'll do

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
  • On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • A diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the specific to the nature of the research. (Geography, Watershed Management, Remote Sensing, or related field).
  • You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.
  • You have practical experience working with GIS software including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and QGIS and image processing software and are comfortable developing automated processing routines.

  • You have experience processing and working with topographic lidar and topo-bathymetric lidar datasets. You have experience constructing benthic habitat maps from topo-bathymetric lidar data

  • You have environmental modelling experience including species distribution, habitat suitability, and hazard modelling.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
