Role Responsibilities

Are you interested in leading practice and a team that provides high quality and culturally sensitive services to children, youth, and families? If so, we would like to hear from you. The Edmonton and Area Region has an opportunity for you. We are looking for Supervisor in the Edmonton Region to join our team!

As a Child Intervention Supervisor, you will support the alignment of casework practice by following the direction and working towards the operational goals of the Ministry of Children and Family Services. Your dynamic leadership will demonstrate your talents and enthusiasm to coach, mentor and guide your team within the child intervention practice framework, signs of safety, as well as Intake and Safety Phase Workflow.

As a Supervisor, you will utilize your solid leadership and team building skills to maintain and enhance a strong and effective team that embraces change. You will engage your team by setting both individual and unit goals and providing on-going case consultation and practice supervision. It is essential as a Supervisor, that you are able to empower your team to have a positive mindset, collaborative skill sets and inclusive practice as they provide services to children, youth, and families as delegated under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.

Your strong focus on coaching and mentoring will guide the support and direction you provide to a team of Children's Services professionals working in Child Intervention Services. Your guidance will be rooted in the Child Intervention Practice Framework, Casework Practice Model, Signs of Safety Approach, and a trauma informed practice lens, to ensure that services delivered are in accordance with accepted practices, standards, and legislative requirements.

You will utilize your team building, critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, time management and organizational skills to prioritize multiple projects and assignments that support better decisions for children, youth and families. Your well-developed interpersonal communication skills will enhance your ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education :

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 2 years of related experience; or
  • A related degree and 4 years of related experience or a related diploma and 5 years of related experience.
  • Related education can include : Bachelor of Child Studies / Child & Youth Care, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA / BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc Family Studies / Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Law Degree, Addictions / Counseling Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, and Criminal Justice Diploma.
  • The following equivalencies maybe considered;
  • Master of Social Work and 1 year related experience; or
  • Related certificate and 6 years related experience.

Note :

Equivalency for professional roles related to Child Intervention : Directly related degree or diploma, successful completion of in-service or comparable training and 2 years of directly related experience.

Related Experience Includes :

Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; foster and kinship care; family preservation and family support; counselling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments.

Preferred Experience :

  • At least 2 years of direct child intervention experience (direct experience with Child Intervention Legislation, Regulations and Policy; Safety Planning; Signs of Safety and the CIP Framework Principles).
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, building rapport with Band Consult, and other key stakeholders in First Nations Communities.

  • Preference will be given to those candidates who are Delegated.
  • Sound understanding of child intervention legislation, policy, practice, and workflow.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed their ICUF Training.
  • Practicum student supervisor or previous experience in an acting role for a supervisor.
  • Knowledge and ability to draw upon an Act Respecting First Nation, Metis and Inuit Children, Youth and Families and how it relates to intervention practice.
  • Actively engage with First Nations community, cultural traditions and practices, and awareness of protocols and customs.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous communities and DFNA partners.
  • Understanding of Truth & Reconciliation.
  • Experience managing a caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry's ICUF. Recognizing that there will be exceptional situations, managers and supervisors who have not completed the training, will be given 12 months from their respective effective dates or from their hiring date thereafter to initiate / complete training. Application for equivalencies based on previous training will be assessed individually.

    The ideal candidates will have a strong working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act and other related legislations (e.g. PSECA), as well as possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills and previous supervisory experience.

  • You carry a valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • As per the health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if :
  • They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta;

  • They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified, or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.

    Travel :
