Position Summary :

Under general direction, the Coordinator, Staff Relations and Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) works independently to provide a range of Division of University Advancement (DUA) HR services for the Office of the COO in the areas of recruitment, job description drafting and updates, managing onboarding / offboarding programs, special projects, and office administration. Key responsibilities include providing front-line advice and information to staff regarding employment policies and collective agreement provisions; coordinating recruitment activities for USW, PM and AP positions; assisting with the development and implementation of proactive recruitment strategies; using discretion to handle very confidential information in an appropriate manner and to refer more complex queries as appropriate; managing in-person inquiries; providing project management support to onboarding / offboarding for Advancement Services team; provides administrative support to the COO and Manager, Staff Relations; provides administrative support to the Advancement EDI Community Council and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and of University policies and procedures.

Education :

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, plus completion of related professional development courses in pursuit of CHRP designation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience :

  • Two to three (2-3) years’ progressive human resources experience, preferably with experience in the areas of : recruitment, equity and diversity, collective agreement interpretation, training and development.
  • Knowledge of and experience using an on-line recruitment system and experience in sourcing candidates essential, preferably experience with using social media recruitment tools.
  • Experience screening resumes and the principles of behavioral based interviewing.
  • Skills :

  • Keyboarding skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Visio an asset.
  • Experience with HRIS an asset.
  • Other :

  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise good judgment and constantly exhibit tact and diplomacy.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a fluctuating workload under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience with project management an asset.
  • Exceptional client focus with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity.
