We are proud to be formally recognized with industry and ministerial awards for innovation and environmental stewardship, while managing long-term contracts within both provincial and federal jurisdictions.
We are looking to expand our highway maintenance operating footprint and are preparing responses to several RFP tenders announced by the Provincial Government of Alberta for five (5) highway maintenance Contract Management Areas (CMAs) in the Northeast and North Central regions of the province.
The Health & Safety Lead, Highway Maintenance will provide Health and Safety program support to LaPrairie Works Inc. operations and will work in conjunction with the QA / QC Team. The Health & Safety Lead, Highway Maintenance will be the main point of contact for all issues related to the company Health and Safety programs within the designated region and will travel to various LaPrairie Works Inc. facilities and / or work sites within the assigned CMA’s as necessary to perform related duties and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional expertise and guidance in all areas of HSE management including direction in HSE program administration, statistical reporting, hazard assessment & controls, incident investigation and related follow up.
- Provide HSE support, advice and direction for line managers and field supervisors.
- Promote and support LWI’s organizational culture where incidents, hazards and opportunities for improvement are reported, investigated, reviewed, and remedial action is addressed with timely follow up.
- Work with field operations supervision / management to ensure employee compliance, with Health & Safety (H&S) policies, Safe Operating Procedures, and Safe Works Practices to promote a safe and healthy working environment.
- Maintain and update safe work practices and safe operating procedures and LWI’s HSE manual.
- Carry out risk assessments and provide recommendations for related work activities to mitigate risk.
- Ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal OHS legislation.
- Mentor employees, at all levels, on H&S matters and the evolving legislation and provisions.
- Help to coordinate incident and Near Miss investigations and perform root cause analysis and make appropriate recommendations for future prevention and overall improvement.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the employees reporting to this position.
- Work in conjunction with the QA / QC and Environmental Teams.
- Ensure that regular site inspections are undertaken, and findings are properly recorded and reported to ensure policies and procedures are being properly implemented and followed.
- Assist the operational team with implementation of Health & Safety strategies and help to develop internal policies.
- Provide and lead in-house training with managers and employees on Health and Safety issues and risks.
- Actively participate in the promotion and compliance within LWI’s ISO 9001 : 2015 Quality Management System.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
