Job Description : As a Chef, you will be responsible for : Plans and implements the four-week menu plan following sections 62, 63, 64, 65, 66 & 67 of Community Care and Assisted Living Act : Residential Care Regulation. Maintains a safe, clean and organized kitchen and storage area abiding by Health and Safety Regulations. Supervises and directs weekend Chef / Cook and Dietary Assistants / Kitchen Assistants. Ensures compliance from other kitchen workers standards, policies and procedure of The Mayfair, Residential Care Regulations and Safe food handling. Ensures the kitchen runs to times with having food prepared ready to serve following Community Care and Assisted Living Act : Residential Care Regulations. Plans, prepares, cooks and serves meals at lunch and dinner time following the four-week menu plan or has a substitute meal in place. Prepares meals for special diets (minced, puree, diabetic). Ensures portions sizes are appropriated and requested taking in to consideration likes, dislikes and allergies according to individual nutrition plans. Orders supplies weekly. Communicates with Director of Care any other supplies needed in the kitchen (not food). Ensure maintenance of equipment and promptly organizes for equipment to be seen if broken. Maintains a record of temperature control for fridges, freezers and hot water (dishwasher), and keeps a log. Maintains a log for the fat trap maintenance and emptying. Interviews with Director of Care possible candidates for the kitchen. Ensures a safe and secure environment in the kitchen and dining room for staff, residents and visitors. Attends Occupational Health and Safety meetings once a month. Participate and complete mandatory training and education : WHMIS, Violence Prevention, Hand Hygiene, and Emergency Response. Participate in annual performance reviews for kitchen staff and self. Understand the policies and procedures. Know where to find the policy and procedures binder. Understand and follow the infection control and Occupational Health and Safety policies. Understand the complaint procedure and refer all concerns to the leadership team. Contribute to maintaining a positive, safe, home-like environment for residents, visitors and staff. Ensure the safety of yourself and others within the workplace. Develop and maintain excellent standard and workplace best practice. Qualifications : Current qualification as a chef and in possession of a Food Service Supervisors certificate. Minimum of one year experience in front of house and customer service Red Seal approved Chef Education (Preferred) Be eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management as per section 44 (2) Community Care and Assisted Living Act : Residential Care Regulation. Food Safe – Level One (Level Two preferred) Have the experience, competence and training necessary to ensure that food is safely prepared and handled and meets the nutrition needs of the resident in care.
